Are you visiting Haarlem? You can experience a warm welcome from a Haarlem Greeter.
Let someone who holds the city dear guide you in all treasures that The Haarlem has to offer, and experience Haarlem just as a resident of the city would!
Absolutely free and always an enrichment of your visit of haarlem
The Haarlem Greeters are volunteers that will share their love for the city with you in an enthusiastic and hospitable manner.
A Haarlem Greeter will walk with you through the city for a couple of hours and have you experiencing Haarlem in a unique way.
For families, friends or people travelling solo – truly an enrichment of your visit!
Greeters are volunteers that love their city so much they volunteer to show their city to visitors.
Not as a guide, but more like a newly met friend! Greeters will show special places that mean something in their lives.
They would also show things visitors specifically ask for such as parks, shopping, architecture or a less wellknown neighborhood.
Come as a guest - leave as a friend!
The concept of the Greeters originated in New York in the early nineties and was created to promote direct contacts between local residents and visitors in the city.
This is called participative tourism.
This popular initiative was followed by many countries and cities all over the world.
Our country also has greeters, in The Hague (Den Haag).
Haarlem can be reached in 15 minutes from Amsterdam Central Station; check the web site www.ns.nl (National Railways) for further information.

Sometimes visitors only state a language and no particular special interests.
In that case Haarlem Greeters selects somebody who can map out a route individually.
